Regarding The Mauretania. Mauretania Apartments opened in early 1936 as the Mar-Si Apartments. The 12-unit Streamline Moderne apartment building was produced by architect Milton J. Black and contractor Security Finance and Building Company for Silas and Margaret Slusher, the same team that had produced the nearby Si-Mar Apartments (later Chateau Rossmore) for the Slushers in 1933-34.
The apartments were later named after the famed 1907 ocean liner Mauretania.
Jack Haley owned the building when John F. Kennedy stayed in the penthouse during the 1960 Democratic National Convention.
Jack Haley did not commission the building, nor is it clear he ever lived there.
