Fowler

Jackie Moore: A scout for Kit Carson, ox team driver for freight between St Louis to Colorado, cattle herder, wood hauler. “Uncle” Jackie Moore’s life (1821-1927) spanned the transitional period when mountain men and trappers and traders vanished and, farmers and ranchers dug in. Jackie’s small log home near the Arkansas River served as a stage coach stop and postal drop just 1000 yards off the Pikes Peak branch of the Santa Fe Trail.

The Scandinavians and the Missourians: Farmers came from near and far – Some as close as Missouri (migrating away from the devastation of the Civil War), others as far away as Denmark. Cultural threads of both groups are kept alive during the annual summer Missouri Day (1921-present) and in the year-round local traditions of the Danish Brotherhood.

The railroad: The Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad steamed through town loaded with passengers in search of a new home. One of these travelers, Orson Squire Fowler, stepped off the train in 1887 and declared this place to be the future location of his dream town, which he envisioned
