The Oldest Half-Timbered House in Groß-Gerau
This half-timbered house is the oldest building in Groß-Gerau. Constructed in 1470, it is a so-called "post-frame" house (Ständerhaus).

In this style of half-timbered construction, all the vertical posts extend from the base beams on the ground all the way up to the crossbeams that support the roof framework.

As there are hardly any other houses of this age and construction style left in our region, this building serves as an exceptionally important architectural-historical monument for our town.

4. Mainzerstraße - the Oldest Half-Timbered House
The house is visible here, albeit without the character-defining half-timbering, which must have at some earlier point been stuccoed over. It‘s the third house from the right, the white one seemingly having the clocktower on its roof (which is actually part of the old town hall, which is two buildings further down the street).
