☆ Born January 23, 1929 ☆

Sportswriter and broadcaster Myron Cope, born and raised in Pittsburgh, was the distinctive voice of Pittsburgh Steelers radio broadcasts for 35 years, beginning in 1970. But he made his biggest mark as creator of the Terrible Towel, which he introduced to rally fans in 1975. Recognized around the world as a display of Steelers pride, this iconic towel, which bears Cope's name, is arguably the best-known fan symbol of any sports team. "Yoi!"
