Glockenspiel
Inscription.
A glockenspiel is the German word for musical chimes. In the European Middle Ages all important towns had their own bells that regulated the life of the town. They called the people to work and sent them to bed.
Just as a bell tower stood in the town's center, Regina’s bells stand here in the heart of the city. They chime the hour of the day and play the music of ethnic and cultural groups in the community throughout the seasons of the year.
There are twenty-three Flemish bells playing a two octave range. Made in Germany of cast brass, the bells are sounded electronically and are controlled by a mechanism housed in the pedestal.
Dedication
These bells are a gift to the city from the citizens of Regina. The project was coordinated by the Regina Multicultural Council on behalf of the multicultural community.
The Regina Multicultural Council is a non-profit organization established for the purpose of promoting and supporting multiculturalism in the city of Regina. The council has a membership of over 65 ethnic groups.
The harmonious chiming of the bells is a symbol of the way in which many groups of different heritages come together to enrich the life of this city.
Dedicated December 1985
Erected 1985.

Excerpt: The Regina Glockenspiel is a landmark musical tower located at City Square Plaza in downtown Regina. Originally installed in 1985 to honor the city’s German community and its cultural contributions, it features 23 bronze bells that play traditional melodies during scheduled performances. After falling into disrepair, the Glockenspiel was fully restored and reinstalled in 2020, returning its distinctive sound to the downtown core. Today it stands as a symbol of Regina’s multicultural heritage and the long-standing presence of German immigrants in Saskatchewan.(Submitted on October 21, 2026, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)
