Inscription.
This building is one of the most thoroughly documented commercial structures in Port Royal. It was built sometime prior to 1820 and was possibly connected to the tobacco market as an inspector's office. By the 1840s it was operated as an Inn and Tavern to accommodate travelers along the Nashville Highway. After the Civil War, it became a general store and was operated by several different merchants. In the 20th century, it was primarily a private residence for the Redfern and Sanford families. The building was torn down in 1985.

Erected by Port Royal State Historic Park.
