Downtown in Cheyenne in Laramie County, Wyoming — The American West (Mountains)
Wyoming Capitol
In 1886, Territorial Governor Francis E. Warren signed a bill appropriating $150,000 for a capitol. When the initial building was finished in 1888, the Territorial Legislature had already set aside more funds to add east and west wings to the building. Construction on the wings was finished three months before Wyoming entered the Union as the 44th state on July 10, 1890. William Dubois, an architect in Cheyenne, led the effort to expand the wings in 1917. Today, the Senate meets in the west wing and the House of Representatives in the east wing.
