1. M-56 Howitzer 105mm Towed (Yugoslavia) Marker
Inscription.
Based on the German M18/40 Light Field Howitzer used in World War II. This gun was probably sold to Iran, then captured by Iraq in the Iran-Iraq War. It was damaged in a firefight with US forces in February 1991 north of Kuwait City and abandoned. Recovered by Maj Charles Meade, TASK FORCE FREEDOM, for Fort Sam Houston.

Location. 29° 26.613′ N, 98° 27.818′ W. Marker is in Fort Sam Houston, Texas, in Bexar County. It is in Government Hill. Marker is at the intersection of Liscum Road and Road 32, on the right when traveling south on Liscum Road. Marker and gun are on display about 75 feet from the SW corner of the Quadrangle, adjacent to the parking area. Access is restricted due to Fort Sam Houston being an active military installation.
