were a universal inspiration for the world as well as for the
Cuban people. He perished on the field of battle in the struggle
for his country's freedom on May 19, 1895, in Dos Rios, province
of Oriente, Cuba.

Location. 27° 57.644′ N, 82° 26.717′ W. Marker is in Tampa, Florida, in Hillsborough County. Marker is at the intersection of East 8th Avenue and North 13th Street, on the right when traveling east on East 8th Avenue. Marker stands inside the Parque Amigos de Jose Marti (English: Friends of Jose Marti Park), a small gated courtyard park enclosed by an iron fence and stone pillars. The park and marker are inside the Ybor City Historic District (a National Historic Landmark District).
The marker is visible from the TECO Line Streetcar System, which runs along East 8th Avenue, turning south at the corner onto North 13th Street. The statue is the focal point of the Parque Amigos de Jose Marti, which was privately donated as park land to the Cuban government prior to the country's communist revolution. Today the city lot on which the park sits remains officially the property of the Republic of Cuba, and contains soil brought from each of the island's provinces.
