1. The Gibson Market Marker
The Gibson Market was originally built as a grocery store with an above apartment in 1917 by James and Ethel Hamilton. After Ethel's husband died in the flu epidemic of 1918, she was the sole proprietor until 1929. In 1919, Ethel married Myron L. Scott, Fire Chief of Jerome. Clarence Gibson became a partner in 1930 and the store name was changed to the Scott and Gibson Market. In 1931 Gibson bought out the Scotts and the store was named the Gibson market. Tony and Emory Kauzalrich, who owned the Union Meat Market next door, later acquired the building and used it as a warehouse. In 1973 Richard J. and Dorothy Miller purchased the condemned building and completely restored it.Erected by The Jerome Historical Society Plaque Project.

The Kauzlarich (new spelling) family was prominent in The Verde Valley, My Grandmother just passed, Josephine Kauzlarich at 97, I spent a lot of time in Jerome and the Union and Gibson Markets are a great way to see my families legacy.
