1. Warwick Hotel 1883-1961 Marker
Inscription. Erected by the Old Dominion Land Co. as the city’s largest residential structure and opened April 11, 1883, the Hotel Warwick fronting on West Ave. and 24th St. long served as the ‘Hub’ of city activities. It housed the county seat of government, the city’s first bank and newspaper. Progressively modernized, a 7-story annex was joined to it in 1928. Fire destroyed the original hotel Nov. 14, 1961, the annex surviving.
 
Erected 1986 by Newport News Historical Committee.
