Inscription. .......On this site in the year of 1877, Sgt. Jack Dunn, with a detail of the Tenth U.S. Cavalry pursuing renegade Apaches, discovered rich out croppings of copper & silver ore. The discovery led to the staking of the first mining claim & the subsequent development of the great southwest mining industry. The Glory Hole on this mountainside was the first mine developed here & was also used by the early settlers as a stronghold & sanctuary when the camp was threatened by Indian attack.

Erected by Bisbee Chamber of Commerce.
