Regarding First Lutheran Church. "Though he preached occasionally in Guilderland and performed ministerial services among the families of the Lutheran faith, no regular organization was effected till the 13th of October, 1787, when the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church was duly organized, with Rev. Heinrich Moeller as the first regular pastor. The first communion service was observed, August 11, 1788, when fifty-eight communicants were present. Rev. Mr. Moeller came from Hamburg, Germany, and studied theology with Rev. Dr. Muhlenbergh, of Philadelphia. He served as chaplain in the Revolutionary war, after which he served several congregations. At one time he was pastor of the Lutheran Church in Albany, and the first Lutheran house of worship in that city was erected under his ministry. He was reputed as a noble example of a pure, devoted minister. He served the church at Guilderland six years, and died at the age of eighty years.
