Regarding William H. Waterhouse Residence. William H. Waterhouse left his home state of New York to pioneer the unsettled interior of the Florida peninsula. With his wife and children, he settled in what would become the city of Maitland, building a skillfully crafted frame home of his own design in 1884. Today, the building is home to the Waterhouse Residence Museum, and has been restored to reflect the way of life enjoyed by a middle class Florida family in the late 1800s and the turn of the century. Adjacent to the house is Waterhouse's Carpentry Shop, which has also been set up as a museum.
The house was added to the NRHP in 1983 (reference #83001434).
