Built 1881 by NY & Long Branch RR for Warren Ave, Spring Lake NJ Station Crossing
Moved to NJMT 1965

Served as NJMT’s first Souvenir Shop
1966 to 1971

Before electronic lights and gates, watchmen manned railroad crossings to protect cars and pedestrian traffic from trains. Most of these men were near retirement or partially disabled.

The 3-Sided Watchman’s Shanty is located in the NJ Museum of Transportation in Allaire State Park. In service for more than 50 years, the Pine Creek RR is the oldest continuously-operated steam preservation railroad in the US.
