Inscription. Site surveyed July 16, 1773. Founded by General James Wilkinson. Chartered by Virginia Legislature Oct., 1786. Chosen Capital of Kentucky December 1792.
 
Erected by Kentucky Department of Highways. (Marker Number 106.)
