1. Purple Heart Memorial Marker
The Purple Heart is the oldest military decoration still in use today. Created in 1782 by George Washington to recognize "unusual gallantry, extraordinary fidelity and essential service," it was reintroduced in 1932 for members of the Armed Forces who are wounded or killed in action.

Honoring Middlesex County recipients of
“The Purple Heart”
our nation’s oldest military medal

My stone is red for the blood they shed.
The medal I bear is my country’s way to show they care.
If I could be seen by all mankind maybe peace will come in my lifetime.
