Charles Sheldon Study
1897
The Charles Sheldon Study was originally behind Sheldon's house on College Street in Topeka, Kansas. In 1897 Sheldon was the author of the internationally famous book In His Steps, from which the phrase "What Would Jesus Do?" originated. Sheldon came to Topeka in 1899 [sic - 1889] as the first minister of the Central Congregational Church located at the corner of Huntoon and Buchanan streets. A display at the church tells of his ministry and his impact on the Social Gospel Movement. His study was moved to Old Prairie Town in the mid 1980's.
Erected by Old Prairie Town.
