Best known as the co-pilot of the famous B-17 The Memphis Belle, immortalized in William Wylers' documentary film "Memphis Belle" in 1943. In 1990 Warner Bros. in Hollywood made a full length movie also called "Memphis Belle".
James Verinis flew as pilot of his own plane, "The Connecticut Yankee", for 20 missions. He was in the 1st raid over Germany on January 27, 1943. He was the first pilot or crewman to complete 25 missions over Germany and France.
He flew his final mission on May 13th, 1943.
