Inscription. If you listen carefully, you can hear the crack of a bat and soldiers cheering as a Fort McDowell “Indian” rounds third base and heads for home – Cole Field. The ball park was home to the men’s baseball team, the “Indians,” and the women’s softball team, the” McDowell Stowaways.” The games provided soldiers, who were waiting to be shipped overseas, an entertaining recreational break from World War II.
