Inscription. Washington’s Headquarters Nov. 21, 1776 was situated about one hundred feet west of this tablet. The entrance to the old Revolutionary Bridge was nearly opposite this spot.

Washington's troops crossed the Passaic River at this site on November 21, 1776 during their retreat across New Jersey. They burned the bridge after them to slow pursuit from the British.
