1. Coments from 1857 - 50 years before the park was built:
West Chester’s first physician Dr. William Darlington in 1857 elegantly wrote his thoughts about this grove becoming a much needed park, he wrote as follows:
It is exceedingly desirable, that the Lot of Woodland, on the South Western side of the Borough — known as “Everhart’s Grove:” should be dedicated, permanently and irrevocably, as a place of resort for the People; — for Children's Pic-Nics; Fête Champêtres; and great Public gatherings. It affords the last and only chance, for securing an aboriginal sylvan appendage to the Town: but whether the present generation can be made to comprehend and feel the importance of the measure, remains to be seen. If we omit the performance of so obvious a duty, no one can entertain a doubt concerning the verdict which Posterity will render against us.
