More about this memorial. The tablet includes an image of a Spanish-American War soldier ready for battle in front of the battleship Maine. The local auxiliary of the United Spanish War Veterans was named after Sheldon Morris Durbin who enlisted in the war at age 14 and after three months of service was honorably discharged on account of ill health.
