Here the former indentured boy, tailor's apprentice and later 17th President of the United States first set up his own tailoring business in a small brick building which was also the sheriff's office. On the death of his former employer in Greeneville about six months later he moved back to that city.Erected by Tennessee Historical Commission. (Marker Number 1B43.)
