Inscription. The eminent Jewish leader is buried here. Minister, Congregation Mikveh Israel, 1829-1850. Founder of the influential journal, The Occident, 1840; its publisher until 1868. A teacher and scholar, he translated the Hebrew Bible into English, 1853.
