1. Abe Hawkins Marker
Inscription. Once enslaved at Ashland Plantation, became noted 19th century African American jockey. Rode the horse Lecompte to victory over Lexington in 1854 in New Orleans. Inducted into the Louisiana Racing Museum Hall of Fame in 1997.
