1. City Hall Marker

Inscription. City Hall was built in 1928 and housed the village and township offices, as well as, the fire and police departments. The tower was used for drying fire hoses until about 1950. It was also designed to accommodate a clock. A Civic Center plan, including a new city hall, park and library building was first conceived by Village President, Charles J. Shain, and Commissioners Charles A. Bingham and Samuel Oliver Wylie Bell. City Hall was designed by Burrowes & Eurich, a Detroit firm who also designed the library. The materials used in both buildings are similar and their designs complement each other. Groundbreaking began in January 1928. The building construction was completed within 10 months and the first Village Commission meeting was held in October of that year.

The postcard does confirm the marker's assertion that on the tower there was space provided for a clock. But it does raise the question - why then didn't they put a clock in the space provided there, as one would assume was intended.
