1. Creed Building Marker
Inscription. This building was originally the Creed Store. The 1923 picture below is of Raymond R. Creed who served as the Mayor of Gilbert in 1925. Ethel Hoffman Lacy, shown in the center of the photo, was the postmaster at this time. Winnie Johnson, wife of Mickey Johnson who owned Mickey's cafe, became the postmaster in 1932 and served for over 30 years in that capacity. The store had many names after the Creed Store including Valenzuela's and Central Market before becoming an electronics store. The clay used in the adobe bricks for many of the walls in the old stores in Gilbert was dug from the ground, creating a basement for the building. In the early 1990's the Farmhouse restaurant moved to this location.
