Oyster Bay in Nassau County, New York — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
End of An Era
The Hamlet changed drastically and quickly in the early 20th century, but things began to slow after Theodore Roosevelts presidency came to an end in 1909. His impact, however, would continue to shape Oyster Bay for years to come, even after his passing.
The period following Theodore Roosevelts death in 1919 was marked by a wave of improvements throughout the Hamlet, some with the intention to memorialize him, others with the desire to improve the quality or character of the downtown, and in many cases both. There were building improvements throughout the downtown, the renovation of Christ Church in 1925, and the dedication of Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park in 1928, to name a few.
