1. New Bridge Marker
Inscription.
Washington’s rear guard under Greene held the bridge in the Retreat of 1776. Burr attacked British here in 1777 and Lee’s expedition against Paulus Hook started from here 1779. Bridge crossed often by both armies during the Revolution.
 
Erected 1937 by New Jersey Historic Sites Commission.

2. Marker at Historic New Bridge Landing
This marker was originally located in front of the Steuben House. Several decades ago, an automobile struck the marker and bent the pole. Since then, it has been stored in the nearby Westervelt-Thomas Barn.

The bridge seen here replaced the one used by Washington's retreating army in 1776. The nearby Zabriskie-Steuben House still stands on its original site.

5. Zabriskie-Steuben House
This house was confiscated from Loyalist Jan Zabriskie. After the war, the State of New Jersey gave it to Baron von Steuben in appreciation of his services to America.
