FB-111A Strategic Bomber. The role of the FB-111A, Strategic Air Commands premier penetrating bomber, spanned the last 20 years of the Cold War. This aircraft and the people in the 380th Bombardment Wing who flew, maintained and supported it, contributed to Americas most important military mission, nuclear deterrence as part of the strategic triad. They performed this with sacrifice, dedication and excellence.
The FB-111As unique qualities of supersonic speed, accuracy and true all-weather characteristics produced supreme combat capability and a record-setting five Fairchild Trophies for Plattsburgh, symbolizing victory in SACS Bombing and Navigation Competition.
This aircraft, number 68-286, model number 58, was dedicated on the Third of December, 1991, to the citizens of the North Country and the men and women who served with the FB-111A. Donated by Friends of Plattsburgh AFB museum. Property of the USAF Museum.
