Caption: The El Cerrito hills in the early 1900s before neighborhoods were built and trees planted.
Inscription.
The hills to the east began rising less than two million years ago. As they rose, small creeks like Cerrito Creek, just sound of here, carried sediment from their eroding slopes downhill and formed a flood plain - today's "flatlands."
