1. El Cerrito's First Mayor Marker

Inscription. El Cerrito became a city on August 23, 1917. Businessman Philip Lee lead the incorporation effort and raised bonds for essential services, including fire and police protection. Lee was elected to the City Council multiple times and served as mayor from 1918-24 and 1926-28. His home and business were just east of here.
