1. The Brick Store Marker

Inscription. Store site in Horseneck by 1798. Brick structure erected by Nath. Douglass, turnpike promoter with I. Crane, 1819, first Caldwell (Franklin) post office, J. Hudson P.M. A major trading and polling place through 19th C. From 1904, council chamber of new borough. Purchased in 1915; remodeled to include fire dept., police, and finally, a jail. Razed in 1968.

Erected 1980 by Historical Society of West Caldwell.
