Inscription.  All-American Halfback, Notre Dame 1947. Returned opening kick-off-97 yards, Army-Notre Dame, 1947. Youngest head football coach, Notre Dame, 1954-1958. His 1957 team snapped Oklahoma's 47 game winning streak, 7-0. Born, June 11, 1928, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Elected 1980
