1. The State Capitol Marker
Inscription. Dedicated in 1932, the Louisiana State Capitol was commissioned by Governor Huey P. Long and was meant to symbolize the state's progress and modernity. At 34 stories, it is the highest state capitol in America and its Art Deco-inspired lines, designed by New Orleans architects Weiss, Dreyfuss and Seiferth, make it one of few capitol buildings that deviate from the commonly-seen Greek Revival style. A tour of the building reveals intricate artwork, bullet holes in marble from Long's assassination, and majestic river views from a top-floor observation deck.
