Horton Bay in Charlevoix County, Michigan — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
Horton Bay General Store
Hemingway's Michigan
Established in 1876, this building has served as a store and post office and as the village's center of business and social life. Hemingway frequented it both as a boy and as a young man. He described its "high false front" in his story "Up in Michigan," and it seems to be the model for Mr. Packard's store in his "The Last Good Country."
Erected 2012 by Michigan Hemingway Society. (Marker Number 10.)
