Regarding Fathers Miguel and José Joaquín Hidalgo. Miguel Hidalgo, one of the first leaders of Mexican independence, was a priest. He and his older brother, José Joaquín, also a priest, both officiated at the Parroquia de San Miguel in 1784. José Joaquín Hidalgo would die in 1802, some eight years before his brother's initial attempts to gain independence from Spain.
