Overall Record: 10-1 | SEC Record: 6-0
Head Coach Paul Dietzel

LSU did not let a season opening loss to Rice spoil a tremendous year for the Tigers on the gridiron. Over the final nine games, LSU allowed a measly 30 points, with 14 of those scored by Kentucky in a Tiger victory. The Tigers blanked Florida then took wins over Ole Miss and Mississippi State to leave them needing only one win short of a league title. For the second time in four years, Tulane suffered a 62-0 humiliation at the hands of the Bayou Bengals, and SEC champion LSU was on to the Orange Bowl to face Big Eight champion Colorado. In what was Paul Dietzel's final game at LSU, the Tigers had little trouble silencing the Buffaloes, 25-7.
