Head Coach Charles Mcclendon

LSU won seven of its first eight games including a victory at Auburn over future Heisman Trophy winner Pat Sullivan, and a win in Birmingham over Alabama, the Tigers' second straight victory over Bear Bryant's Crimson Tide. The Tigers fell to Notre Dame and Joe Theismann in a thriller in South Bend before a win over Tulane set up an SEC title showdown with rival Ole Miss and QB Archie Manning. Tommy Casanova and Craig Burns combined to return three punts for touchdowns, and Ronnie Estay nailed Manning for a safety as LSU brought Christmas to Tiger Stadium early with a rout of the Rebels in a night game on National TV to send the Tigers to Miami for the Orange Bowl.
