1. The Erie House Marker
Inscription. This 1894 saloon and hotel belonged to the Van Detto family, recently arrived Italian immigrants. Located a few hundred feet east of Lock 52, the Erie House was a popular destination for the canal community.
 
Erected 2016 by New York State Thruway Authority / Canal Corporation.

Location. 43° 2.244′ N, 76° 38.065′ W. Marker is in Port Byron, New York, in Cayuga County. Marker can be reached from Interstate 90 near Erie Canal Heritage Site. Touch for map. The marker is within the Port Byron Erie Canal Heritage Park, an historical interpretive center/thruway rest area on eastbound Interstate 90.
