1861 ** 1961
120 celebrated riders rode 650,000 miles with only one rider killed by Indians, one schedule not completed and one mail pouch lost.
 
Erected by National Pony Express Centennial Association - Dwight D. Eisenhower, Chairman - Sherrill Halbert, Vice President.
 
Marker series. This marker is included in the Pony Express National Historic Trail marker series.
 
Location. 38° 34.986′ N, 121° 30.251′ W. Marker is in Sacramento, California, in Sacramento County. Marker is on 2nd Street, on the left when traveling south. Touch for map. Marker is within the bounderies of the Old Sacramento State Historic Park, on the wall next to the Old Sacramento and B.F. Hastings Building markers. Marker is in this post office area: Calpella CA 95418, United States of America.
