This house was a site for the recruitment of youths joining the 1863 January Uprising.
 
Erected 1989.
 
Location. 50° 3.733′ N, 19° 56.453′ E. Marker is in Kraków, Małopolska, in Kraków Powiat. Marker is on Szpitalna just south of Świętego Tomasza, on the left when traveling south. Touch for map. Marker is at or near this postal address: Szpitalna 7, Kraków, Małopolska 31-024, Poland.

Commonwealth against its occupation by the Russian Empire. It began on January 22, 1863 spread to the other Partitions of Poland and continued until the last insurgents were captured in 1864....It was the longest lasting insurgency in post-partition Poland. The conflict engaged all levels of society, and arguably had profound repercussions on contemporary international relations and ultimately provoked a social and ideological paradigm shift in national events that went on to have a decisive influence on the subsequent development of Polish society."
