As part of the yearlong Centennial celebration at Pennsylvania College of Technology, three large-scale installations were created by artists with the help of students to enrich the outdoor environment of the campus.

Ceramics instructor David Stabley worked with the Penn College community on a major Centennial mosaic that honors the history of Pennsylvania College of Technology, Williamsport Area Community College, and Williamsport Technical Institute. Stabley's design relates to social connectedness, paths travelled, dreams, and the pleasure of learning through hands-on work. The mosaic project was created by students in a course titled "The Art of the Mosaic," along with faculty, staff, and others, using donated ceramic tile, marble, and mirror.

[Quote]
My artwork is a reflection of my attempt at understanding our connection, as human beings, to the many worlds we occupy. In the examination of any of these worlds, an amazing beauty, complexity, varied diversity, and interconnectedness is revealed. When we dream, fantasize, consider our place in the ever expanding universe, or merely interact with our immediate physical world, we are doing so at many different levels. There is a blurring of distinction of what is, what was, and what shall be. Our thoughts, feelings, and interactions are actually composed of many

layers and fragments, stories within stories.

The mosaic design illustrates those many different aspects of ourselves and the world we live in, as well as our connectedness. We hold the world in our hands and our pathways are many. Our educational experiences broaden our horizons, enrich our home lives, and enable us to enjoy life to the fullest. We dream about where we have come from and where we will go in the next 100 years.
