Inscription.
What?† The ship-side mock-up is a 3m x 3m snapshot replica of the mid-ship section of HMS Victory.
Who?† T. Nielson & Co., traditional wooden ship builders, have constructed the mock-up for the National Museum of the Royal Navy.
When?† Installed in early 2016, the mock-up is monitored each month and continues as a long term research project on the dockside.
Why? † the dockyardís marine conditions make for a difficult conservation environment. The mock-up is testing the durability and effectiveness of the techniques we intend to use in future conservation work. These include different types of timber planking, fastenings, caulking and paint systems.
