Regarding Justo Rufino Barrios. Justo Rufino Barrios overthrew the conservative Guatemalan government of Cerna on June 30, 1871 as part of the Liberal Revolution. He led Guatemala as President until 1885 when he was killed leading troops in the battle of Chalchuapa, El Salvador while attempting to reunite the Central American countries under his leadership. He is a polarizing figure in Guatemalan history as his presidency saw many improvements in the economy and infrastructure but at the same time experienced a regression in its democracy and other social indicators.
