Regarding José María de Jesús Diez de Sollano y Dávalos. José María de Jesús Diez de Sollano and Dávalos was the first Bishop of León. He was born in the city of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, on November 20, 1820. He was rector of the school of San Gregorio, later of the Seminary and also of the University. He was appointed bishop on March 19, 1863, when the diocese of León was created and the Pope chose him as his first bishop. Due to the political situation of the time he could not take possession of his diocese until February 14, 1864. During his tenure the construction of the Catedral of León

was completed. He also built 110 churches in different parts of his diocese. He distinguished himself by his charity and sobriety. He died in León on June 7, 1881.
