Inscription.  Mary Zug, the wife of J.G. Francis, was the daughter of Michael and Mary Frantz Zug. She lived at a time when social changes were a challenge to many long held traditions and customs. Though she was a woman of strong beliefs, she was also a woman of tolerance, able to see the point of view of others. Believing that educated men and women would be an asset in furthering the mission of the church, she attended Lebanon Valley and Mt. Morris colleges.

While actively in the church, Mary was also active in the community She was president of the Lebanon Branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union from 1921 to 1928. She was a pioneer in such projects as children's playgrounds and parent-teacher associations.

Together with her husband, she raised six children, Mary Irene, Willard Zug, Monica Ruth, Michael Ulric, Susanna Rover, and Anna Marthella. Mary Francis' life was generously lived for her family, her church and her community.
