1. Merchant Marine Monument Marker

Inscription. Dedicated to all Merchant Marine Seaman
Members of the U.S. Merchant Marines serving world wide aboard U.S. Flag cargo ships during World War II suffered a greater percentage of war-related deaths than did all of the nation’s regular armed forces combined.
The Merchant Marine Seaman suffered losses of 3.4% Of the over 200,000 serving, with 6,798 killed. The total of all other armed services suffered losses of 1.78%.
We were granted U.S. Armed Forces Veteran status January 19, 1986. National Maritime Day is May 22nd.

Erected 1998 by Members of the Sacramento Valley Chapter American Merchant Marine Veterans (AMMV), their families and friends. This Chapter was founded 2/1/91.
