1. The Corn Crib Marker
Inscription. The corn crib (located on your left) was a special building used for storing corn and other grains. The corn would be picked from the fields and put in there to dry. Once the corn dried, the farmer would separate the kernels from the cob using a hand cranked sheller.

Conveniently located near the corn crib was the out-house. Since toilet tissue had not been invented, the soft corn husk was the preferred choice.

Location. 35° 59.308′ N, 79° 26.805′ W. Marker is in Burlington, North Carolina, in Alamance County. Marker can be reached from R. Dean Coleman Road. Touch for map. The historic farm is located at Cedarock Park. From interstate 40/85, take exit 145. Travel 6 miles on NC Highway 49 South. Turn left onto Friendship Patterson Mill Road & then left onto R.
